NOTE: 17 Wing Winnipeg is an active military base. DO NOT visit us without first contacting the staff. Failure to arrange your visit in advance will result in you being turned away at the gate. You must contact us at least one week in advance of your visit to ensure adequate time to add you to the Wing access list.
Building 21
Access to 17 Wing must be made through the main gate off Whytewold/Wihuri Road. DO NOT TAKE AIR FORCE WAY. Drivers should be prepared to present a government issued ID to gain entry. State the cadet's name and make it clear to security that you are going to Building 21 for a "170 Cadet Squadron activity". Please note that there is also a sea cadet corps at Building 21, so be sure to specify 170 Squadron. 17 Wing personnel have the right to request ID, search vehicles, and deny access to 17 Wing if they feel it is necessary for security.
There is a list of cadets, parents/guardians and guests kept at the gate for the commissionaires to use as a reference. If someone other than the parent or guardian will be transporting a cadet, you must notify our Admin at least 7 business days prior to the activity to ensure they are on the list.
If you have any difficulties gaining access, DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE COMMISSIONAIRES OR MILITARY POLICE. Exit the Wing, park across the street and contact your level officer or the office at (204)833-2500X2469 for assistance.
Once you're through the gate follow the road past several buildings. Continue east along the road through a large field. You'll see a large building slightly to the left ahead. Before the building, turn left onto Ottawa Ave. Follow Ottawa Ave around the north or back side of that large building and you will see a gymnasium next to it on your right side. That is Building 21.
Due to current COVID-19 protocols, the south doors are locked and cadets must be dropped off at the north entrance off Ottawa Ave. At the end of the activity, Cadets are to be picked up at the south east entrance of the parking lot.
Do not use the spot in the southwest corner of the lot reserved for the 17 Wing Commander.
